Frequently Asked Questions
FIRST Robotics stands for For Inspiration and Recognition of Science and Technology. Founded in 1989, it is a non-profit organization aiming to inspire young people’s interest in STEM (science, technology, engineering, and mathematics) through team-based robot competitions. FIRST offers three different types of competition for all ages: FLL (FIRST Lego League), FTC (FIRST Tech Challenge), and FRC (FIRST Robotics Competition).
FIRST Tech Challenge (FTC) is a competitive robotics program for students in grades 7-12, where teams design, build, and program robots to play a unique, sports-like game, released annually. Operating under the FIRST organization, it emphasizes STEM skills, teamwork, and “Gracious Professionalism”.
Out of the Box Robotics (FTC Team 7244) is a highly competitive, award-winning independent FIRST Tech Challenge (FTC) robotics team based in Coatesville, Pennsylvania. We are comprised of middle and high school students, we excels at designing, building, and programming custom robots in-house, frequently qualifying for World Championships.
