Our Mission

We want to motivate and help girls thrive in STEM, a male dominated field, using hands-on experiences and the spread of information.

What’s So Innovative? We decided to create our own program and organization to help girls. We have 3 event types:research trips, online info sessions, and FTC luncheons. We share information online – we have posted over 100 scholarships as well as informational posts on our Instagram, which has over 1.5k followers. We also distribute informational pamphlets containing basic information.

Events

Luncheons:We host luncheons at many competitions, even ones that we do not compete at. The reason we host these is because we want to provide girls with a specific time during the day to connect with other girls because most of them who participate in FIRST are on majority male teams. We have started to announce the luncheons at the opening ceremony for more awareness.

Penn Research Trips: Something really important to getting girls interested in STEM is showing girls what future career paths and real-world applications can look like, which is why we decided to start this program. We take trips to Dr. Bell’s research lab at the University of Pennsylvania or Penn Medicine, where girls learn about different laboratory techniques and robotics applications.

Resources:

Pamphlets: We have created many informational pamphlets that are basic guides and filled with extra resources to help girls learn how to use many important programs that are vital for robotics.

Online Resources: On our Instagram, we constantly post scholarships opportunities to promote women in STEM. We also sponsor women who have are looking for girls to assist them in various research opportunities. This program has connected over 300 girls with unique opportunities.

Scholarships: We have over 100 scholarship opportunities that help girls in STEM reach opportunities that are hard to come by in a male-dominated fields. We also occasionally post opportunities for internships that are offered by our mentor board of STEM professionals for different aspects of robotics.
